How to Remove Filter from a Photo

3 Mins read

With their popularity, social media apps such as Instagram and Pinterest dominate internet. You might not find an image that does not have a filter in this age. Filters are everywhere, whether it’s a subtle color boost or a complete black-and-white transformation.

Sometimes, however, you may want to reuse a photo with or without the filter. This could be to preserve your image or for professional use.

Although it might seem impossible, technology has made this possible.

This guide will discuss several ways to remove filters from photos using mobile apps and BunnyPic, a free tool. Snapchat filters can be tricky so I’ll show you how to remove them.

Let’s get started.

How to remove a filter from a saved photo

Just now, you’ve seen a beautiful photo that you saved to your gallery.

You can use the filter to make it look nice, but you would rather have a backup of the original so you could keep the filter off.

BunnyPic and mobile apps can be used to remove filters from photos you have saved.

BunnyPic: How to Remove Filter from a Photo

It can be difficult to remove a filter that you have applied to an image while you work on a PC. The destructive editing of adding filters to an image means that the original image will be permanently altered. Because editing tools like Photoshop flatten images, all effects are part of the original.

BunnyPic is an online Photoshop editor that’s free and easy to use. BunnyPic can be used to color correct your PSD file even if you don’t have it.

This is how BunnyPic can be used to remove filters from your photos

  1. Navigate to the BunnyPic editor, and then press Open from Computer.
  2. Choose the image that you wish to remove the filter.
  3. Click on the Layers Icon to the right.
  4. To open the adjustment layers menu, click the half black half-circle icon at the bottom.
  5. To add one of the Adjustment Layers to your photo, select one.
  6. Adjust until you find the colors match the original.

You should pay attention to these Adjustment Layer options:

  • Curves and Levels are great for changing tones and colors
  • Color balance and Hue/Saturation are great for changing the colors in an image

This powerful method allows you to control the color correction of your photos.

Mobile apps allow you to remove filter from photos

First, we will try to color-correct the photo using Snapseed.

Snapseed, a mobile photo editor that is free to use on your smartphone with around 28 tools for editing and filters to enhance your images.

Follow these instructions to save the image in your gallery.

  1. If you have an iPhone, go to the App Store. Or the Playstore if your Android.
  2. Look for “Snapseed” in the App Store and Download it
  3. After downloading, open Snapseed
  4. Open your photo on Snapseed
  5. You can adjust the colors, highlights and shadows in the app until you get the original color

You would find the following most useful tools:

  • White Balance
  • Tonal Contrast
  • Tune Image
  • Curves

These can be played with until you feel that the image is very close to the original.

How to remove Snapchat filter from a photo

There are two ways to get rid of the Snapchat filter from your photos.

First, use the magic eraser. This is a Snapchat app that allows you to quickly edit or remove elements.

These are the instructions for using Magic Eraser.

  1. Get the Magic Eraser app from the App Store.
  2. You can go to the filtered Snapchat picture and save it on your device.
  3. Use the Magic Eraser button to brush the button over any elements you wish to remove.
  4. Snapchat will remove filtered objects automatically after you have used the eraser.

You can also re-edit the image saved to your Snapchat Memories.

This one is quite simple.

  1. Save your snaps
  2. Click Edit
  3. Simply swipe left or right to modify filters, or to return to the original.

How to remove Snapchat stickers from photos

Snapchat also allows you to add stickers to images. Stickers are a common and popular feature to create customized snaps.

This makes it more difficult to reuse the original image. It is a good idea to remove stickers if you want the original image to be returned.

The Magic Eraser tool can be used to remove stickers:

  • Get the Magic Eraser App for your smartphone.
  • Save the Snapchat photo with stickers to your device.
  • Use the Magic Eraser to clean the stickers that you don’t want.
  • Snapchat will remove stickers automatically after you have used the eraser.

The stickers can be removed using BunnyPic.

  1. Transfer your photo to your computer and then open it in BunnyPic.
  2. BunnyPic allows you to duplicate the original layer by going to Lay > Duplicate or pressing CTRL+J
  3. Select the top layer and choose one of the selection tools on the left toolbar to select the sticker.
  4. Go to Edit > Fill, and then select Content Aware.
  5. This will remove the sticker, but keep the background intact.

There are many free online and offline tools that can remove filters from photos. Color correcting the image using a photo editing tool such as BunnyPic is the best way to remove a filter.

Snapchat filters, however, are not the same as normal color filters. These filters can be removed by using the Magic Eraser tool, or simply by re-editing an image in Snapchat.
